Lawrence County Photo Gallery

Marjory Petty Austen, with help from a descendant, identified this photo as being Adam STOLTZ, s/o of Henry and Margaret PETTY STOLTZ who were early pioneers of Lawrence County, and his wife, Marian Mary MUSGROVE. The child is their son, William Adam STOLTZ. Margaret PETTY was the sister of Moses PETTY who came before 1820 to Petty Twsp. in Lawrence Co. Their younger sister Elizabeth came as the bride of Joseph PEPPLE and sister Sarah and her husband Peter PARGIN were also early residents of the area. Many others followed in the years to follow. She believes the PETTY line goes something like this:

Henry and Margaret PETTY STOLTZ
John C. STOLTZ and Unknown
Adam STOLTZ and Marian Mary MUSGROVE
William Adam STOLTZ and Bertha HOWELL of Richland Co., IL
Mary STOLTZ and Unknown FERGUSON

Marjory Petty Austen has identified this picture as being Marian Mary (MUSGROVE) STOLTZ and her son William Adam STOLTZ. It was thought that Marian looked unwell in the second photo, and sure enough, she died shortly after this photo was taken. At that time, her husband, Adam STOLTZ remarried Laura BAKER and went further south into IL.
